Arjun Adireddy and Mrittika Mallick are National Junior 2024 Open and Girls Champions
FM Arjun Adireddy (TEL) scored an unbeaten 9.5/11 to win 53rd National Junior Under-19 Open 2024. Mrittika Mallick (WB) and Sarayu Velpula (TEL) scored 9/11 each at 38th National Junior Girls. Mrittika won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Sarayu was placed second. FM Sourath Biswas (WB) and FM Jaiveer Mahendru (MAH) scored 8.5/11 each. They were placed second and third in the Open event. Sneha Halder (WB) scored sole 8.5/11 to finish third. The total prize fund combining Open and Girls section was ₹1000000. The top three prizes in both Open and Girls sections were ₹100000, ₹72000 and ₹60000 along with a trophy each respectively. Arjun successfully defended his National Junior title. Mrittika is now both National Sub-Junior and Junior Girls champion. West Bengal dominates the podium by claiming three out of the six places.

FM Arjun Adireddy (TEL) was the sole leader 8.5/10, going into the final round. Alekhya Mukhopadhyay (WB) and CM Madhvendra Pratap Sharma (MP) were the only players in pursuit at 8/10 each. Madhvendra lost to Arjun and he became champion. FM Sourath Biswas (WB) defeated Hari Ganesh T (TN) to finish third. Alekhya lost against FM Jaiveer Mahendru (MAH). Jaiveer was placed third. This is Arjun's second rating tournament triumph of the year.
Mrittika Mallick (WB), Sarayu Velpula (TEL) and WCM Sanskruti Wankhade (MAH) were the three leaders 8/10 heading into the last round. Top seed, Sarayu defeated Sanskruti, Marium Fatima (BIH) lost to Mrittika. Mrittika became champion due to better tie-break score, Sarayu second. Sneha Halder (WB) won against Nivedita V C (TN) to finish third. This is Mrittika's fourth triumph of the year. She is also the reigning National Sub-Junior Girls champion.
Daksh - Arjun
FM Arjun Adireddy (TEL, 2342) played a great game to beat the reigning National Sub-Junior Open champion, Daksh Goyal (DEL, 2025). 37...e5 was necessary for Black as it was the only way for him to create a chance. 38.fxe5 Qxh3 39.d5? instead Nd5 would have activated the knight. 39...Nd7 40.e6 fxe6 41.Qc8+ Nf8 42.dxe6?? Qxe3-+ gave Black a decisive advantage. He won the game in the next few moves.
Marium - Mrittika
18.Qc3? allowed Black to do a beautiful knight maneuvering from a6 to d4 via c7-b5. 18...Nc7 19.b3 Nb5 20.Qb2 Bxf3 21.Bxf3 Nd4 22.Bd1 f3-+ Black is completely winning positionally. She had no trouble to convert her advantage, score a full point and win the tournament.
A total of 177 players including an IM in the Open and 128 players in the Girls tournament took part. The tournaments were organized by The Haryana Chess Association at Shamiyana, The Royal Taste in Karnal, Haryanan from 16th to 24th September 2024. The eleven-round Swiss league tournament had a time control of 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move no.1
