Deep Sengupta and Yuri Solodovnichenko are cochampions at ØBRO & CXU International 2024

GM Deep Sengupta and GM Yuri Solodovnichenko (UKR) scored 7/9 each to win ØBRO & CXU International 2024. Since tie-breaks were not applicable, both players shared first place. Deep got the better of Yuri in the penultmate round. GM Eduardas Rozentalis (LTU) and FM Nicolai Kistrup (DEN) scored 6.5/9 each. They shared third place. WGM Rakshitta Ravi scored her final IM-norm. She is now 78 Elo rating points away from becoming India's next International Master. The first prize was DKK 7500 / €1000 which was shared between Deep and Yuri. Rakshitta earns her final IM-norm

WGM Rakshitta Ravi scored 6/9 to share fifth place with three more players. She defeated GM Gergely Aczel (HUN), IM Martin Haubro (DEN) and drew with GM Johnny Hector (SWE) en route her third IM-norm. FM Nicolai Kistrup (DEN) also scored an IM-norm.

Position after 50...Kh3

GM Deep Sengupta (2491) made an amazing save from a losing position against FM Stephan Buchal (GER, 2211). 50...Kh3 51.Rb4 Kxh2 52.Rxb3 axb3 53.Kd2 b2 54.Kc2 Na4 55.Nd4 Ba2 56.Nf3+ Kh3 57.Nd2 b5 and Black went on to win the game.

23...Bf6?? allowed WGM Rakshitta Ravi (2308) to strike 24.fxg6!+- Rf8 25.Bxf7 Kh8 26.Rf1 Bxg5 27.Qd4+ Bf6 28.Rxf6 Nxc2 29.Qf2 Nxa1 30.Rf4 and White went on to beat GM Gergely Aczel (HUN, 2498).

A total of 54 players including six GMs, two IMs and two WGMs took part from 11 countries across the world in this Open A (>2200) category. The seven-day nine-round modified Swiss League Rating Open tournament was held at Rosenvængets Allé in Copenhagen, Denmark from 22nd to 28th July 2024. The time control of the event was 90 minutes for 40 moves + 15 minutes for the rest of the game, with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move no.1.
