Dreamhack Rapid and Blitz is back!
DreamHack is an international gaming festival, a 3-day grand celebration of all things tech, pop culture, gaming, and cosplay. The DreamHack Rapid and Blitz Tournament last year saw the participation of close to 400 people in Hyderabad! India's biggest gaming festival is back this year at Hyderabad - and the DreamHack Rapid and Blitz Chess Tournament is back! The event has a total Prize fund of INR 5,00,000, and it will run from 3rd-5th November 2023. Entry is FREE for GM, IM, WGM and WIMs. You simply can't miss this! DreamHack Rapid and Blitz Tournament 2023
The DreamHack Rapid and Blitz tournament will be open to all and will have a total prize fund of Rs.5,00,000. 3rd and 4th of November will be the rapid event, while 5th of November will be the Blitz event. The Rapid event has a prize fund of Rs.3,00,000 and the blitz event Rs.2,00,000. The rapid event will have a time control of 15 mins + 10 seconds of increment and 9 rounds (4 rounds on day 1 and 5 rounds on day 2). The blitz event will have a time control of 3 mins + 2 seconds and will have 9 rounds on day 3.
Prize structure
The tournament boasts a huge prize fund! The first prize for the Rapid Chess tournament will be Rs. 60,000, and the top 25 players will receive Cash prizes! The top 3 finishers of the event will also receive beautiful trophies. There are cash prizes for the top 10 players in 3 Rating categories, along with prizes for best female player and various age categories! Note: 31.2% tax will be deducted for prizes worth ₹10000 or more.
The Rulebook
Like every other tournament, the DreamHack Rapid and Blitz will also abide by a set of rules and regulations. Take a close look at this before playing, so that you don't have to worry about anything during the event!
1. Tiebreaks: Latest AICF approved Tiebreaks will be used.
2. Time Control : 15 minutes + 10 second increment starting from move 1 for the Rapid event, and 3 minutes +2 second increment starting from move 1 for the Blitz event.
3. Default Time for arrival : 15 Minutes for Rapid & 3 Minutes for Blitz
4. Cash Prizes : Cash Prizes will not be shared. One player will be eligible for only one Higher Prize.
5. Electronic devices : Players are strictly forbidden to bring any electronic devices, including all sort of wrist watches to the tournament hall. If it is found during the game on the player's body, the player will be declared lost.
6. Disqualification : If any player is found to be concealing his identity (concealing rating/playing with a different name) the player concerned will be expelled from the event without any further notice.
7. First round pairings : Players whose opponents have not turned up in the first round may be paired manually to avoid walkovers.
8. Corrections : The players are requested to inform any corrections in their Names, FIDE ID, Rating, Date of Birth, Email ID, gender etc. before the second round. Certificates will be generated and FIDE ID's will be created according to the data available from third round pairings.
9. FIDE FPP Regulations : FIDE fair play procedures will be enforced in this tournament.
10. No request towards wavier or refund of the entry fees will be entertained.
11. In case of any dispute then Chief Arbiter's decision is final and binding on all.
12. PROTEST: Protest(s) if any shall be made in writing against the decision of Chief Arbiter within 15 minutes of the occurrence of the event with the protest fee of Rs. 1500/- which will be refunded back if the Protest is Upheld.
13. The tournament will be conducted as per the FIDE Laws of chess, and 9 rounds will be played in Swiss-System of play with pairing software Swiss Manager.
14. Organizer have right to accept or reject any entry without assigning any reason.
15. Last date of registration : 3rd November 2023; No spot entries will be allowed.

If you are interested in participating in the Rapid and Blitz Chess tournaments on all 3 days, then the ideal buy for you would be the festival tickets which allow entry and participation on all 3 days. Entry is FREE for GM, IM, WGM and WIMs. The Chess Only festival ticket will allow participation only in chess tournaments.
