Six champions crowned at MPL 9th National Amateur Chess Championship 2022
The ninth edition of MPL National Amateur Chess Championships 2022 witnessed a total participation of 440 players from 23 different states across the nation. Six new champions were crowned in six different categories. They are - Kushal O (AP) in Under-1700 Open, Prishita Gupta (DEL) in Under-1700 Women, Pradeep Tiwari (DASCB) in Under-2000 Open, Prishita Gupta (DEL) in Under-2000 Women, Koustav Chakraborty (WB) in Under-2300 Open and Shubhi Gupta (UP) in Under-2300 Women. 440 players participate from various states
Only Under-1700 had a separate event, as there were 51 women participants. The remaining two categories Under-2000 and Under-2300 Women were merged with Open (according to tournament regulations) as there were less than ten women participants.
Under-1700 Open
Kushal O (AP, 1686) scored an unbeaten 8/9 to clinch the Under-1700 Open championship. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Five players scored 7.5/9. Anubhav Rawat (DEL, 1329) and Kartik Kumar Singh (MAH, 1581) was placed second and third. Top three prizes were ₹12000, ₹9000 and ₹7000 cash along with a trophy each.

Under-1700 Women
Prishita Gupta (DEL, 1326) scored 7.5/9 and finished a half point ahead of the competition to win MPL 9th National Amateur Chess Championship Below 1700 for Women. Despite starting the tournament with a loss, the 10-year-old, reigning Delhi State Under-12 Girls Champion, scored 7.5 points in the remaining eight games. Hanya Shah (GUJ, 1169) and Elakshi Srivastava (RAJ, 1256) secured second and third place scoring 7/9 and 6.5/9 each respectively. Top three prizes were ₹8000, ₹6000 and ₹5000 cash along with a trophy each.

Under-2000 Open and Women
Both Pradeep Tiwari (DASCB, 1865) and Apoorv Kamble (KAR, 1846) scored 7.5/9 each. Pradeep clinched the championship due to better tie-breaks. He also remained undefeated. Six players scored 6.5/9. Out of them, Ethan Vaz (Goa, 1792) was adjudged third. Top three prizes were ₹16000, ₹14000 and ₹10000 cash along with a trophy each.
Reigning MPL 34th National Under-12 Girls champion, Shubhi Gupta (UP, 1613) scored 6/9 to finish first in the Women's category. Top three prizes were ₹10000, ₹6000 and ₹5000 cash along with a trophy each.

Under-2300 Open and Women
Koustav Chakraborty (WB, 1945) scored sole 8/9 and finished a half point ahead of the field. His sole loss was against the eventual runner-up of the tournament, Kumar Gaurav (BIH, 1998) who scored 7.5/9. Garv Rai (DEL, 2033) secured third place 7/9. Top three prizes were ₹20000, ₹17000 and ₹14000 cash along with a trophy each.

Ishvi Aggarwal (HAR, 1709), Dakshita Kumawat (RAJ, 1575) and Falak Joni Naik (GUJ, 1349) scored 4.5/9 each. They were placed first, second and third in the Under-2300 Women category according to the tie-breaks. Top three prizes were ₹10000, ₹6000 and ₹5000 cash along with a trophy each.

A total of 262 in Under-1700 Open, 51 in Under-1700 Women, 72 in Under-2000 and 55 in Under-2300 took part in this five-day nine-round MPL 9th National Amateur Chess Championship 2022. The tournament was organized by Jaipur District Chess Association from 3rd to 7th May 2022 at Mahal Rajwada Resort, Jaipur, Rajasthan. The time control for the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move no.1.
