Subhayan Kundu clear first at 3rd Lt. Diloo Dhar Memorial Rating Open 2025
IM Subhayan Kundu scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 3rd Lt. Diloo Dhar Memorial Rating Open 2025. IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni and Abhrojyoti Nath scored 7.5/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹750000. The top three prizes were ₹111000, ₹71000 and ₹50000 along with a trophy each respectively. The five-day nine round Rating Open tournament was organized by Siddhanandaji Education Trust at Neer The Banquet in Silchar, Assam from 24th to 28th January 2025. Subhayan's first tournament triumph of the year
Top seed of the tournament, IM Subhayan Kundu and Allayar Shirliyev (TKM) were the coleaders, heading into the last round 7/8. Subhayan defeated IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam to become the champion. IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni won against Kumar Gaurav to secure second place. Allayar lost to Abhrojyoti Nath who finished third. 13-year-old Sagnik Halder scored 7/9 to finish eighth. He is the youngest top ten finisher of the event.
Subhayan - Balasubramaniam, Round 9
IM Subhayan Kundu (2366) launched a devastating attack on IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam's (2001) kingside. 18...Rd8 allowed 19.Neg5 g6 20.h5 Bxf3 21.Nxf3 Rd7 22.Qh6 Bd8 23.hxg6 Black's kingside got wrecked and White went on to win the game.
Mr. Mridul Yadav, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar District attended the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest. Mr. Rajib Dhar, Honorary General Secretary of All Assam Chess Association was also present in the prize distribution ceremony.

A total of 241 players took part from various places all over the country and one from Turkmenistan. The five-day nine round Rating Open tournament was organized by Siddhanandaji Education Trust at Neer The Banquet in Silchar, Assam from 24th and 28th January 2025. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move no.1.
