Karen H Grigoryan wins 5th Yerevan Open 2023, Adhiban second and Abhimanyu Puranik third
GM Karen H Grigoryan (ARM) scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to win 5th Yerevan Open A (≥2100) 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. GM Adhiban B, GM Abhimanyu Puranik and GM Sergei Lobanov scored 7/9 each. They were placed second, third and fourth respectively according to tie-breaks. Both Karen and Adhiban remained undefeated. The total prize fund of all three tournaments was 15000000 AMD. The top three prizes in Open A were AMD 2600000 + trophy, 1800000 and 1350000 each. There were Chessify prizes (Chessify coins) also worth US$ 3000. The top three prizes were $500, $400 and $300. That's not all. There were 20 Chessmood prizes. Top three won 1 year, 6 months and 3 months memberships. GM Zaven Andriasian (ARM), GM Karthik Venkataraman and GM Samvel Ter-Sahakyan (ARM) scored 7.5/9 each in the Blitz. Karthik Venkataraman second in Blitz
GM Karen Grigoryan (ARM) and GM Pranesh M were the coleaders 6.5/8 heading into the final round. Karen defeated Pranesh to become a clear champion. GM Mitrabha Guha and GM Iniyan P lost to GM Adhiban Baskaran and GM Abhimanyu Puranik respectively. Thus, Adhiban and Abhimanyu were placed second and third respectively. GM Pranesh M, GM Karthik Venkataraman and GM Bharath Subramaniyam H scored 6.5/9 each. They were placed sixth, seventh and ninth respectively.
Blitz
GM Zaven Andriasian (ARM), GM Karthik Venkataraman and GM Samvel Ter-Sahakyan (ARM), all three scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 each. They were placed first, second and third respectively. The top three prizes in the Blitz were AMD 320000, 220000 and 150000 each.
A total of 124 players including 20 GMs, 14 IMs, a WGM and 3 WIMs took part in Open A (from nine countries across the world in this nine-day nine round Rating tournament. It was organized Yerevan Chess Federation at Meridian Expo Center in Yerevan, Armenia from 29th September and 7th October 2023. The time control of the event was 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, plus 30 minutes till the end of the game with 30 seconds increment per move, starting from move no.1.
