Pranav and Pranesh at the top
18 players in the Open and 11 in the Girls section are at 4.0/5.
Open Round 4: Pranav - Vrashank: 1-0
IM Pranav Venkatesh (TN) showed his great understanding of position. He made the most of it when his opponent Vrashank Chouhan (RAJ) made a positional inaccuracy.
16...Bf8 with the idea of Bg7 is a slow plan. 16...Bxc4 17.dxc4 d3 was a better continuation for Black. White immediately played 17.Bg4 to get rid of his own bad bishop and prevent both Bxc4 and f5 ideas.
Ritvik - Pranesh: 0-1
IM Pranesh M (TN) also made a short work of his opponent Ritvik Krishnan (MAH) in just 26 moves.
23.Be2 is a big mistake. Find out the winning continuation for Black.
Ethan - Mayank: 0.5-0.5
10-year-old Ethan Vaz (Goa) drew with CM Mayank Chakraborty (ASM). The former blundered in the pawn ending which went unnoticed by his opponent.
The endgame was a draw. 43.b3 created a winning opportunity. Find out the winning continuation and also what White should have played instead.
Round 5: Aditya - Pranav: 0-1
Aditya Varun Gampa (AP) had an interesting game against IM Pranav V (TN).
In the middlegame, White needed a computer like accurate defense to prevent the position from being completely lost. However, Aditya somehow managed to survive and liquidate into a queen, knight and few pawns endgame. Find out what White needs to do to save the game after 48...Kf8.
Girls Round 5: Tejaswini - Vakcheri: 0-1
Vakcheri Mohitha (AP) beat Tejaswini G (TN) in an exciting game which could have gone either player's way.
Both sides are attacking on each other's king. How should White respond to 32...Rxa3 ? White made the mistake of playing 33.Qc2 which gave Black a winning chance. However, Black was unable to seize it immediately. She won the game eventually after a back and forth play.
Mrittika - Dakshita: 0.5-0.5
Mrittika Mallick (WB) was winning for the better part of the queen endgame against Dakshita Kumawat (RAJ).
One of the simplest win for White was to trade the queens 60.Qxf6+ gxf6 61.f4 f5 62.Kf3. The resultant pawn ending is winning for White.
White is still winning here. Only one thing White should not do here is 89.Qxg7 which allows Black to force a draw by perpetual check. Find out what was the correct continuation for White.
