A dozen champions crowned at 12th National Schools Chess Championships 2024
The 12th National School Chess Championships 2024 witnessed a participation of 885 players from 29 different states and union territories across the nation. Tamil Nadu state bagged the maximum number of medals - nine, four Gold, two Silver and three Bronze medal. Karnataka won five medals, two Gold and Silver each, and one Bronze. Kerala secured four medals, a Gold, two Silver and a Bronze. Nine out of the twelve champions - Sukriti Rhea S (TN), Oishik Mondal (WB), Divi Brijesh (KER), Rishen Jilowa (RAJ), Pratitee Bordoloi (KAR), CM Md. Reyan (BIH), Arnav Agrawal (UP), CM Shadhursshaan R (TN) and Sindhushree K (TN) in U-7 Girls, U-9 Open, U-9 Girls, U-11 Open, U-11 Girls, U-13 Open, U-15 Open, U-17 Open and U-17 Girls category respectively, remained undefeated. Tamil Nadu dominates the field
Tamil Nadu won the maximum number of medals - nine. The total prize fund of the tournament was the same as the previous edition ₹504000. Top three prizes in each section were ₹10000, ₹7000 and ₹6000 cash along with a trophy each.

Under-7 Open
Takkshanth Anand (TN) scored 8/9 to clinch the championship. He finished a half point ahead of the runner-up. Devanarayanan Kalliyath (KER) 7.5/9. Shivay Singh (UP), Aaradhyo Guin (WB), Stephen Andrews (TN) and Arjun Sharma (UP) scored 7/9 each. They secured third to sixth place respectively according to tie-breaks.

Divi Bijesh (KER) dominated her category scoring an unbeaten 8.5/9 and finishing a staggering 1.5 points ahead of the field. Nakshatra Gumudavelly (KAR), Sharvaanica A S (TN) and Aarini Singh (GUJ) scored 7/9 each. They were placed second to fourth according to tie-breaks. Divi defeated Nakshatra and drew against Sharvaanica. She won the event with a round to spare.

They were placed second and third according to tie-breaks. Only Aadya remained undefeated. She drew with the eventual champion, Drishtee in the final round.

Under-17 Girls
The newly crowned Chengalpattu District Under-19 Girls and Women 2024 champion, also Tamil Nadu State Under-17 Girls 2023 champion, Sindhusree K won her category. Both Sindhusree and WCM Anupam M Sreekumar (KER) scored 7/9 each. Anupam was placed second according to tie-breaks. Both of them remained undefeated. The game between them ended in a draw. Twinkle Riju (KER) scored 6.5/9 to finish third.

A total of 885 players took part from 25 states and 4 union territories across the country. The tournament was held at Gyan Bhavan in Patna, Bihar from 6th to 10th February 2024. It was organized by All Bihar Chess Association. The nine round Swiss-league rating tournament had a time control of 90 minutes each + 30 seconds increment from move no.1.
