Deep Sengupta wins 22nd Najdorf Memorial 2023
GM Deep Sengupta, GM Valery Kazakouski (LTU) and GM Jacek Tomczak (POL) scored 7/9 each at 22nd Najdorf Memorial A 2023. Deep won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Kazakouski and Tomczak secured second and third place respectively. Ten players scored 7/8. Despite losing his fourth round game, Deep managed to score 4.5/5 in his next five games to become the champion. GM Sriram Jha and GM Shardul Gagare scored 6/9 each. They were placed seventh and tenth according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the festival was 45000 PLN, 24000 PLN in A, 12000 in B and 9000 in C. The top three prizes were 8000, 4000 and 3000 PLN each respectively in the A category. This is Deep's second consecutive podium finish after securing a second place finish at České Budějovice GM B 2023.
Deep's first tournament triumph of 2023
GM Deep Sengupta drew against GM Valery Kazakouski (LTU) in the final round to finish with 7/9 and win the tournament on tie-breaks. This is Deep's first individual rating tournament triumph since he won 18th Vandoeuvre Open 2021 in France. The Warsaw Chess Festival 2023 witnessed a combined participation of 642 (Group A, B, C and Blitz).

GM Deep Sengupta (2456) made an interesting queen sacrifice 23...Bxc6!? 24.Rxd5 Bxd5. The reason behind the sacrifice is, Black can gain a lot of material by giving discover checks repeatedly. White decided to return the queen 25.Bc4 Nd4+ 26.Bxd5 Nxe2 27.Bxa8 fxe5 now White blundered 28.Re1 Nxg3+ 29.fxg3 Rxa8 the resultant endgame is winning for Black due to the fact of extra pawn advantage paired with a rook and bishop against a rook and knight in an open position.

A total of 81 players including 9 GMs, 5 GMs and a WIM took part from various countries across the world in this Open A (>2000) category. The nine-day nine-round Swiss League Rating Open tournament. The event was organized by Gen. Kazimierz Sosnkowski Chess Foundation at Sports hall at Konwiktorska in Warsaw, Poland from 10th - 19th July 2023. The time control of the event was 90 minutes for 40 moves + 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move no.1.
