Devesh Anand Naik dominates Goa State Senior Rating 2023 with a perfect 9/9
Devesh Anand Naik (Ponda) scored a perfect 9/9 to win Goa State Senior Rating Championship 2023. He finished a full point ahead of the runner-up, Mandar Lad Pradip (Bardez) 8/9. Four players - Aayush Shirodkar (Salcete), Chaitanya V Gaonkar (Bicholim), Rishikesh Parab (Mormugao) and Anish Naik (Ponda) scored 6.5/9 each. They were placed third to sixth according to tie-breaks respectively. Mandar's sole loss was against the eventual champion, Devesh in the sixth round. The top two players finished 1.5 points ahead of the field. Top three seeds secured the podium. The top three prizes were ₹5000, ₹4000 and ₹3000 along with a trophy each respectively. Top two outperform the rest
Devesh Anand Naik was the sole leader 8/8 heading into the final round. He was a full point ahead of the top seed Mandar Lad Pradip 7/8. Devesh defeated Chaitanya V Gaonkar in the final round, while Mandar got the better of Shubh Vishnu Borkar. Aayush Shirodkar won against Rajveer Patil. Thus, Devesh became a clear champion, Mandar sole second and Aayush secured third place due to better tie-break score.

The tournament was inaugurated by lighting the traditional lamp and making the first move on the board by Mahesh Candolkar, newly elected president of Goa Chess Association, in presence of Sandesh Amonkar, Dnyaneshwar Naik, Dattaram Pinge, Secretary TTCA, Vasudev Amonkar, Atish Angle, IA Arvind Mhamal, Chief Arbiter and Vice President, GCA and others.
Prizes were distributed by the Chief Guest - Mahesh Candolkar in presence of guests - Allabaksh Mulla, Ashesh Keni, Secretary GCA, Sandesh Amonkar, Dnyaneshwar Naik, IA Arvind Mhamal, Chief Arbiter & Vice President GCA, Dattaram Pinge, Secretary TTCA, Vasudev Amonkar, Atish Angle and others.

A total of 76 players took part from various districts across the state of Goa in this five-day nine round Rating Open tournament. It was organized by Tiswadi Taluka Chess Association at Mahalaxmi vachan Mandir Hall in Panaji, Goa from 26th to 30th July 2023. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move no.1.
