Ritviz Parab convincingly clinches Durga Motors Rapid Rating Open 2024
IM Ritviz Parab scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win Durga Motors Rapid Rating Open 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. Mandar Pradip Lad scored sole 8/9 to finish second. Four players - IM Bhakti Kulkarni, Ravindra Nikam, Muchandi Karthik and Mayuresh Laxlabh Desai scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed third to sixth respectively according to tie-breaks. Ritviz's sole draw was against the top seed Nitish. Mandar suffered his only loss of the event against Bhakti. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹100000. The top three prizes were ₹35000, ₹16000 and ₹10000 along with a trophy each. The two-day rapid rating tournament was organized by Rotary Club of Porvorim, sponsored by Durga Motors Porvorim, on 10th and 11th February 2024 at Dr. K B Hedgewar School, Cujira in Bambolim, Goa. Ritviz's first rating tournament triumph of the year
IM Ritviz Parab and IM Bhakti Kulkarni were the coleaders 7.5/8 heading into the final round. They inevitably faced each other in Round 9 and Ritviz prevailed in it. Three players - IM Nitish Belurkar, Mandar Pradip Lad and Brendan Peroz were in pursuit at 7/8 each. Mandar defeated the top seed Nitish to secure second place, Bhakti was placed third. The Arjuna awardee Bhakti is the sole female finisher among the top 25.

A total of 246 players including three IMs took part from various states across the country and one from Hungary and Ukraine each. The two-day nine round Rapid Rating tournament was organized by Rotary Club of Porvorim, sponsored by Durga Motors Porvorim at Dr. K B Hedgewar School, Cujira in Bambolim, Goa on 10th and 11th February 2024. The time control of the event was 20 minutes + 10 seconds increment.
