Evgeniy Podolchenko wins 27th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit 2024, Sriram Adarh Uppala third
GM Evgeniy Podolchenko scored an unbeaten 6.5/9 to win 27th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. GM Manik Mikulas (SVK) scored sole 6/9 to finish second. Sriram Adarsh Uppala and GM Tair Vahidov (UZB) scored 5.5/9 each. Sriram was placed third due to better tie-break score. The seven-day ten-player round-robin tournament was organized by Tamil Nadu State Chess Association at Hotel Alankar Grande in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu from 7th to 13th September 2024. No tie-breaks needed for top two
Belarus GM Evgeniy Podolchenko won the 27th edition of the TN IM-norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament with 6.5 points. GM Manik Mikulas of Slovakia was placed second with 6 points followed by Sriram Adarsh Uppala for the third place on 5.5 points. Both Uppala and GM Tair Vahidov (UZB) were tied on 5.5 points, SB tiebreaks favoured Uppala. Podolchenko joined Manik, Vahidov and Nandish at the top on four points at the end of sixth round. Podolchenko scored 2.5 points in last 3 rounds to become the champion. First runner-up Manik scored 2 out of 3 rounds, while Sriram got the better of Vahidov in tie breaks.
The tournament was inaugurated by Dr. M Manickam, President, Tamil Nadu State Chess Association and Chairman of Sakthi Groups, in presence of International Arbiter Manjunatha of Karnataka, Deputy Chief Arbiter - V Rajsanthos, Associate Manager, Accenture Solutions Pvt. Ltd., K Dhanasekar, Secretary, Coimbatore District Chess Association, V Vijayaraghavan, Tournament Coordinator.
