Balkishan awesome at Puneeth Rajkumar Cup Rapid Rating Open 2024
Balkishan A scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win Puneeth Rajkumar Cup Rapid Rating Open 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Dr. Prajwal P Shet, IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam and Marthandan K U scored 8/9 each. They secured second, third and fourth place respectively according to tie-breaks. Balkishan defeated Prajwal and Ramnathan consecutively in Round 7 and 8. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000 cash + 200 trophies. The top three prizes were ₹25000, ₹15000 and ₹10000 along with a trophy each. The winner received a Puneeth special trophy. The two-day nine round Rapid Rating and Blitz Open tournaments were organized by Davangere Chess Club at Bapuji Bank Samudaya Bhavana in Davangere, Karnataka on 5th and 6th October 2024. Sai Agni Jeevitesh wins the Blitz Open
Balkishan A made a fantastic start by winning eight games in-a-row. Six players were trailing him by a full point. He drew with Chiranth M D in the final round to become a clear champion. Dr. Prajwal P Shet defeated CM Samarth J Rao to secure second place. Vivaan Sachdev lost to IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam. Thus, Ramnathan finished third. IM Sai Agni Jeevitesh J and Marthandan K U scored an unbeaten 8/9 each in the Blitz Open tournament. Sai won the tournament on tie-breaks, Marthandan was placed second. Augustin A edged past three more players on tie-breaks to finish third scoring 7.5/9. The top three prizes in the Blitz Open were ₹10000, ₹5000 and ₹3000 along with a trophy each.
The event was inaugurated by Mr. Krishna Hegde, GGG (HR) of MRPL, with the inaugural ceremony presided over by Mr. Sunil Achar, Hon. President of the DKCA. The event saw esteemed guests including Mr. Sathyaprasad Kote, Founder of Genius Chess School, Puttur, and Mr. Ramesh Kote, President of DKCA, who welcomed the participants and attendees. Mr. Abisheikh Kattemar expressed gratitude with the vote of thanks, while Dr. Vani S Panikar served as the Master of Ceremonies.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Mr. Dinesh K Shetty, President, Davanagere District Chess Association, Mr. Shivaganaga Srinivas, Mr. Anandappa, Mr. Uluvaiah, President, Lions Club, Davanagere, Mr. Gadigudal Manjunath, Mrs. Manjula Yuvaraj , Mr. Yuvaraj, Secretary, Davanagere Chess Club. Mrs. Manjula Yuvaraj welcomed the participants and attendees.

It was organized by Davangere Chess Club at Bapuji Bank Samudaya Bhavana in Davangere, Karnataka on 5th and 6th October 2024. The time control of the event was 20 minutes + 5 seconds increment per move.
