Sammed Jaykumar Shete dominates Nipani Grand Rapid Rating Open 2023
IM Sammed Jaykumar Shete (MAH) scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win Nipani Grand Rapid Rating Open 2023. He finished a full point ahead of the field. Shriraj Bhosale (MAH), IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam (TN) and Saurish Kashelkar (MAH) scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed second, third and fourth according to tie-breaks. Sammed's sole draw of the event was against the eventual second runner-up, Balasubramaniam. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹100000. The top three prizes were ₹21001, ₹12506 and ₹10004 along with a trophy each respectively. The tournament was organized in memory of Late Sou Ratanbai Bhaichand Shah, Akkolkar on 17th to 18th June 2023 at Sri Venkatesh Mandir, Nipani in Belgaum, Karnataka. Sammed's fourth rating tournament triumph of 2023
IM Sammed Jaykumar Shete scored 7.5/8 and had a half point lead heading into the final round. Four players were in pursuit at 7/8 each. Sammed defeated Mudassar Patel (MAH) in the final round to become a clear champion 8.5/9. IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam drew against Shriraj Bhosale to finish with 7.5/9. They were placed third and second respectively.
Miss Priti Suraj Patil was the Chief Guest at the inauguration function. Mrs. Malatiben Popatlal Shah, Mrs. Nilima Pravin Shah and Mr. Pravin Popatlal Shah, Tournament Director and Director of Nipani Utkarsh Foundation were the other dignitaries present.
The organiser provided breakfast, lunch and dinner for free, to all players and accompanying persons. Dormitory rooms were provided for free to all the participants.

A total of 175 players including two IMs took part from various states across the country in this two-day nine-round Swiss League Rapid Rating Open tournament. The event was organized by Nipani Utkarsh Foundation at Sri Venkatesh Mandir, Nipani in Belgaum, Karnataka on 17th and 18th June 2023. The time control of the event was 25 minutes + 5 seconds increment from move no.1.
